Z-arts Artist Workshops

Z-arts is committed to supporting the development of artists and their work.

This page is our Artist Workshop page, where we will list all the workshops taking place at Z-arts for artists to be able to book on to.

Some of these workshops will be paid for, other will be free to attend. If you wish to attend one of the workshop that costs money to book and you circumstances mean you’re unable to pay for the space, that is totally fine. We have bursary places available for artists. Information for how to get a bursary place at any of the paid workshop will be listed under the ‘Cost’ section of each workshop.

Upcoming Workshops:

Participation and Performance: Exploring the craft of early years theatre with Turned On Its Head

Join Liz Clark, Artistic Director of Turned On Its Head for a practical, theoretical and celebratory day of early years theatre and dance making.

As a participant you will:

⋅ See a performance of “Shiny Christmas”  – Turned On Its Head’s new re-imagining of the 2013-2014 touring phenomenon “Shiny”, which toured extensively from 2013-2016 including Dance Umbrella Festival.

⋅ Understand the show structurally, artistically and within the context of early years pedagogy and explore how to apply these to your own practice.

⋅ Find out how the company have worked with their “Cultural Equity Advisory Group” to re-imagine the show with a more global welcome.

⋅ Delve into co-creative dance and theatre making practice that aims to celebrate children’s creativity and centre their voices.

Please wear clothes you can move in and bring a notebook and pen. You may also wish to bring your lunch and a drink, the café at Z Arts will be open for you to purchase food and there are shops locally.

Target Age: Artists over the age of 18

Cost: £10 per person*

About the Company:

Turned On Its Head (www.turnedonitshead.org) is a dance company making dance theatre for babies and children aged 0-4’s since 2010. The company is often embedded within communities for 2-3 years in making each show. They are currently touring our outdoor work commissioned by Small Steps Big Changes (Nottm) and funded by Arts Council England, “The Delights”. In 2024 they became company in residence at Pen Green Children’s Centre and Research base, exploring the enquiries “how can we capture and celebrate children’s choreography” and “how can we make visible to authentic characteristic of co-creation in early years”.
