Z-arts welcomes beatbox champion Shlomo!

World record breaking beatboxer Shlomo brings his celebrated human beatboxing kids show to Z-arts.

On Sunday 12 May Z-arts welcomes Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids to the main theatre, a madcap whirl through the history of hiphop and beatbox, and with a promise that all of us can do it too.

“I feel so lucky for the inspiration and encouragement I received as a child,” said Shlomo in a previous interview, “and as a direct result music has saved me so many times. I love passing the joy of music on to the next generation of music fans and budding musicians.”

Shlomo is known for bringing beatboxing to the mainstream. He has won numerous awards for his talent – and not just in performance. Shlomo is the current holder of the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Beatboxing Ensemble, directing a group of 2,081 people at the Dublin Convention Centre in 2011. He’s worked with internationally renowned artists such as Bjork, Rudimental and Ed Sheeran, and founded the first Beatbox Academy in South London. He’s also recently released his debut solo album, Surrender, blending his innovative live-looping and breath-taking beatboxing with epic synths, crushingly honest lyrics, lush electronic layers and dancefloor party vibes.

The show is perfect for anyone who has ever enjoyed music – whether that’s dancing to it in the kitchen or wanting to be the next big recording artist. Shlomo takes you on a whistle-stop tour of hiphop, beatbox, and how you don’t need anything but yourself to make some noise.

“Music is a brilliant way for young people to connect with themselves and each other,” said Jack Hartshorn, the Music and Community Studio Manager at Z-arts. “It’s always great to see artists who use their skills to empower the next generation of creatives.”
