Dance Manchester & Company Chameleon present STRIDE, their annual young men’s dance project. This free project introduces boys aged 10-20 to contemporary dance & physical theatre, with sessions being led by the professional dancers of Company Chameleon. Running since 2009 & taking place in all 10 Greater Manchester districts, STRIDE has worked with over 5,000 young men so far. STRIDE participant Javan from Wigan said, “STRIDE has helped me in so many ways, from confidence to just making friends.”
STRIDE 2015 has offered free dance sessions in over 50 schools in; Bury, Bolton, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Salford, Tameside, Trafford & Wigan. Then a try-out was held in each district to give the young men the opportunity to gauge the level of commitment & the demands of the project. Which also helped the dance professionals witness participants enthusiasm, commitment & raw talent. But it isn’t too late to join STRIDE!
The project has now moved onto the weekly sessions before participants are invited to take part in the October half-term rehearsal week, leading to performances at the award-winning Whitworth art gallery. It’s a great place to get active, build fitness, express your creative side & make friends. Many sportsmen use dance as a training tool. Our boys have performed outdoors & in unusual spaces; from The Lowry, to Heilbronn in Germany. They’ve also taken part in major events, such as Dance Manchester’s own Urban Moves International Dance Festival through to performing at Old Trafford football stadium in front of 80,000 people for the 2013 Rugby World Cup.
Get you & your friends together & come down to take part in something new. Have you got what it takes?
