Library Lab | Saturday 20th Aprill

11am – 1pm

Z-arts are pleased to announce that we’ll be welcoming Gabrielle Kent to our next Library Lab event. She’ll be accompanied for part of the event by her husband Satish Shewhorak, with whom she collaborated on the Rani Reports series of books.

Gabrielle lives in the North East of England. She grew up in the 1980’s drawing castles and dragons, reading comics, and playing video games. In the summers, she ran wild with her brothers and cousins on her Granny’s farm in Galway. Her first job was as a video game artist working on games for PC, Playstation, and Xbox. She spent sixteen years as a university lecturer teaching students how to make video games, and ran and hosted various games and animation festivals along the way. She has always loved exploring castles and in 2006 she visited Castle Coch in Wales. As she looked at a carving of The Fates over one of the fireplaces, an idea for a story crept into her head. When she got home she started typing the story of Alfie Bloom, the boy who inherited a castle and has written many more books since.

On the day Gabrielle (and Satish) will be sharing some of her/their books, teaching us all a secret pirate code, talking about Dodo’s, and answering your questions! Plus after they’ve shared their creativity you can carry on and get involved with creative crafts inspired by the setting of one of their books, Mauritius. Design your own Dodo and create your own artwork inspired by Mauritius and its artists.

All free for families but the event is probably best for children aged 6+ years as Gabrielle’s books are aimed at a reading age of 7+.
Gabrielle was chosen as our Library Lab author by our Story Stars and Book Club kids.
