Step inside a humongous chocolate cake and explore a secret larder, swishy swashy and splash splosh your way through a Bear Hunt. And dare you explore the Bad Things in the Dread Shed? Discover hidden rooms and brilliant clues that show what inspired Michael Rosen’s writing including his Grandparents’ sitting room and his classroom.

The experience focuses on some of Michael’s most popular books! Discover hidden rooms and brilliant clues that inspired Michael Rosen’s writing.

What to expect from your visit…

A typical visit to Z-arts to see Bear Hunt, Chocolate Cake & Bad Things, would start with a walk through of Michael Rosen’s books in our immersive world of bear caves, rivers, forests, snowstorms and chocolate cake – not to mention the dread shed!

Your experience is led by one of our Story Builders who, in character, leads  the children on a Bear Hunt and facilitates play and story creation throughout the session. Younger children can enjoy a Bear Hunt trail, whilst older children can go on a fun fact finding mission on Michael Rosen and create poems of their own to take away. The experience offers a variety of activities for ages 0 – 11 to encourage imaginations, creativity and play.

Making the most of your Bear Hunt experience!

After you have spent some enjoyable and exciting time as a family discovering the imagination of Michael Rosen you can all relax in the café together where you can choose from Bear Hunt lunch boxes, bear crisps and snacks, chocolate cake and bear biscuits plus delicious hot and cold food for the rest of the family. Yum!

Little kids can play in our toy area and try our very own bear hunt around the building whilst older children can stay and play in the Michael Rosen activity centre and have a go at our word searches, crosswords, colouring in, mazes, origami poetry and much more!

“This exhibition is one of the most exciting things to have happened in my writing career… I am so looking forward to it.” – Michael Rosen

“We want words to come alive for children, so that they all want more of them. This kind of exhibition can do that.” – Michael Rosen

“It’s magical!” – Michael Rosen

“A crazy, immersive experience… an irresistible world of sound, light and special effects that is also, in parts, curiously familiar” – Anna Tyzack- The Sunday Telegraph

“It’s a wonderfully atmospheric way to bring the rhythmic story to life…gleefully silly word games to get creative with…The exhibition works brilliantly as a jumping-off point to inspire young minds to engage with the written word…Though child-sized, it’s packed with just enough to keep those with wandering attention spans rapt.” – Natasha Polyviou- Time Out

“Had a great time on the bear hunt with my 4 year old little girl our explorer guide was just perfect! A must do for all young explorers.” – Naomi Cartlidge

“I come here very regularly, as my daughter loves it. Came to the opening of the Bear Hunt with Michael Rosen yesterday, which was magical. Will be coming again on 7th October to experience the magic again.” – Alan Birks

“The Best Place I’ve ever been to” – Jenny Leonard
