Dance and physical theatre opportunities at Z-arts this summer

This summer Z-arts is hosting a whole host of exciting dance courses and workshops for both young people and adults. Working with partners such as ADAD, FE’Dance, Breaking Cycles and renowned dancer Namron these really are opportunities not to be missed.

Developing Creative Excellence Workshop
Saturday 14th July, 12-3pm
Family event, £2 per person

Through a series of talks, performances and workshops, ADAD will be exploring some of the achievements and contributions of Black British dancers from the 1930’s to the 1990’s as they look at the different ways that African and Caribbean dance forms have always represented who they are and where they are going. There will be a special Caribbean Folk song and dance workshop by Imani Jendai from FE’ Dance UK as well as discussions and other workshops.

ADAD Masterclass with Namron
Saturday 28th July, 11.30am-2pm
Ages 16+, £5 per person (Dancing experience required)

ADAD is delighted to offer a Master class with legendary Namron. He will be teaching a one and half hour Contemporary class with a Caribbean dance style influence. This will be followed by talk and Q+A.  There will also be live drumming.
Namron began his training with a scholarship to Rambert Ballet School in 1965. He later became a founder member of London Contemporary Dance Theatre (LCDT), remaining in the company for eighteen years, touring globally and working with some of the renowned choreographers of the time.

ADAD Open Stage
Saturday 28th July, 3-5pm
Ages 16+, Free performance platform

ADAD Open Stage™ is an informal platform for artists who work with forms of dance of the African Diaspora to showcase excerpts of their work and receive feedback from a guest panel(special guest Namron).  To book or for further enquires about performance, email Lisa Nkrumah-Mweu on lisa.n-m@adad.org.uk
Places are limited so booking is essential.

Dance Week – gain a Bronze Arts Award
Monday 6th August – Friday 10th August, 10am-4pm
Ages 11-16, £25 deposit – returnable upon completion of the course

Participants will get to visit our exhibition on black dance in the UK and take part in related dance and movement workshops including African and Caribbean dance and contemporary movement. Experience not required, just an interest in dance

Breaking Cycles: Physical Words
Monday 6th August – Friday 10th August, 10am – 4pm,
Ages 16+, £50 for the week

This summer Z-arts are offering the opportunity to spend a week working with world renowned performer and director Benji Reid. This energetic class will explore movement and gesture, providing you with the skills you need to expand your range as a performer and gain a better understanding of the relationship between action and the spoken word.
This is an unmissable opportunity for anyone who is thinking about acting as a career.
