Z-arts and Breaking Cycles present a truly unique retelling of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio. Directed by Benji Reid and featuring world-class music, animation, and body popping, Pinocchio is an exciting new show for a modern family audience.

Pinocchio (Ryan Harston) is on the run, and in a ramshackle shop in Manchester, Elijah the toymaker eagerly waits. Will Pinocchio return to make his father proud? Z-arts invite adults and children from the ages of 7 and upward to be swept along on a magical journey on their doorstep.

Written by Mary Cooper, the classic tale of Pinocchio is retold in Moss Side during the Great Heatwave of 1976.  ‘At its core, Pinocchio is a simple fable about humanity and rebirth’ says Director Benji Reid ‘but it is the physical landscape which gives mythology multiple possibilities to be reimagined.’

The piece also marks an exciting new venture for Z-arts as CEO Liz O’ Neill explains ‘This is Z-arts first co-production, so it’s very fitting that it also launches Big Imaginations. Supported by the Arts Council, Big Imaginations is a network of venues and promoters who all have a commitment to bringing brilliant children’s theatre to the North West. I couldn’t think of a better way of launching such an exciting project; a great step towards our ambition to be recognized as Manchester’s dedicated venue for children and families.  Who better to start that journey with than Benji Reid and Breaking Cycles, who are making a magical piece of theatre that’s guaranteed to enthrall and captivate the children of today.’
