Z-arts and Puppet Centre are delighted to announce the appointment of No Nonsense as puppet-company in residence.
This residency is in partnership with Puppet Centre, London and supported by Arts Council England Grants for the Arts.
No Nonsense Theatre Company creates highly visual theatre for an international audience. The Company tours within the UK and internationally. It also works with community groups throughout the UK and Eastern Europe. Run by joint artistic directors Liz Fitzgerald-Taylor and Lisa O’Hanlon, who said:
No Nonsense Theatre Company are thrilled to have been awarded a bursary from The Puppet Centre, London, to become Z-arts new puppet company in residence. We are looking forward to an exciting twelve months researching large scale puppetry, developing our making skills and making further links with the local community. We hope to engage and inspire young people of all abilities in the making and realisation of a HUGE elephant structure that will be both puppet and performance space. Roll up, roll up! No Nonsense Theatre’s Elephant is coming to your town!
During their residency at Z-arts No Nonsense will be developing their new show, working title THE ELEPHANT for under 5’s. This touring production is for both theatre and non-theatre venues and is ideally suited to family audiences with very young children 2-5 years old. Available from winter 2013.
Concept:
- Inspired by the children’s story THE LAST ELEPHANT by Dorian Yates
- An experiential, sensory-led, interactive performance space for an Early Years audience
- An inclusive theatrical experience – THE ELEPHANT will be accessible to a learning disabled audience
- An exciting elephant structure to be used in theatre and non-theatre spaces
Z-arts are delighted to be working with No Nonsense. As Liz O’Neill (Z-arts Chief Executive) put it “It’s important for us to develop our offer for the under 5’s, as part of our ambition to be Manchester’s dedicated venue for children and families so working with No Nonsense and seeing the magic of this wonderful new large scale experience is very exciting for us.”
Linda Lewis the Director of Puppet Centre says “I am delighted that No Nonsense will be able to take advantage of Z-arts support as well as our input in mentoring, workshop opportunities and show case events during the year. The company has some bold and exciting ideas for their work and I look forward to working with the company on the creation of their new work ‘The Elephant’”.
