Z-arts’ flagship project for 2013 is a co-production with Breaking Cycles to create a modern reworking of the children’s classic Pinocchio told using text, movement and puppetry. Aimed at 7 – 11 year olds, “Mahogany Pinocchio” will be a 21st Century version of a 19th Century tale, taking inspiration from dark Victorian scary stories, graphic novels, pop-up puppets and body poppers; turning asbo-culture into morality for a new generation.
A two-week workshop as part of the development process is scheduled for June, and the production period begins in earnest in November (funding permitting), ready to enthral children if all ages in time for Christmas. This show is also available for touring. If you’re interested in supporting Pinocchio or bringing the show to your venue, please contact liz @ z-arts.org or follow the process here or at @bcyclesmcr on twitter.
